Missed Connections:
A Craigslist Fantasia

Directed and Conceived by Elizabeth Carlson

Curio presents their first foray into Fringe Festival territory with their company created piece:
Missed Connections: a craigslist fantasia.
Based around the idea that an entire universe exists in “craigsland” - We are creating an ensemble-based piece from found text, primarily from Philadelphia Craigslist personal and community forums.  We seek to create a through-line that explores the social dichotomy of Anonymity and Identity on the Internet using only found text.

According to company playwright Alex Harne: “Craigslist represents … the kind of bartering, soliciting, hawking, craving, and urging that no longer exists in modern malls… where the lay people make deals with other lay people, trading sex for goats and children for money. It is the essence of what the human market place is at its very core. Craigslist fills a need. Not just to find things. Not just to laugh at the inane message boards in the form of poorly constructed haikus. It reignites the survival instinct in people; a jungle-like attitude. It is a place where you stalk and are stalked in return. And you are encouraged to do both.”

Curio Theatre Company kicks off its fifth year in West Philadelphia with this innovative new theatre piece and invites you to do some Craigslist stalking with them this Fringe season.

Curio and newly formed theatre company, Renegade Performance Group give Alfred Jarry’s Dadaist masterpiece a modern makeover in this new adaptation.  Part Hamlet, part Macbeth this work satirizes aristocracy and leaders in charge. Six actors will play the over twenty characters by manipulating masks and employing commedia and heightened physicality.  Using the cavernous space of the Calvary Center, we will explore what makes us human and what makes us alive.

Renegade Performance Group produces international theatre with literary significance in the West Philadelphia area.
