Ahead of the Philadelphia Premiere of Larissa Fasthorse’s The Thanksgiving Play, Curio honors the Lenape of Pennsylvania with an art installation.
The Art installation opened on Indigenous People’s Day! 2024
Curio presents an empty octagonal flower bed in front of its building with a sign asking the community to fill it with Lenape soil provided near the installation. It is designed to create a tangible land acknowledgement. In the Spring, when the flower bed is full, it will be filled with native plants. With the art installation, there is information to encourage members of the community to sign a petition to get Pennsylvania to formally acknowledge the Lenape as the first inhabitants of Pennsylvania and a scanner code to allow people to donate directly to the Lenape of Pennsylvania.
We were honored to have Chief BlueJay in attendance at the opening on October 14.
Please visit the land acknowledgement art installation outside of the Calvary Center on Baltimore Avenue and empty a cup of Lenape soil into the land acknowledgement flower bed!
