Meet the Teaching Team
Andrew Carroll has been teaching in the arts for the last 5 years.He built and ran the Theatre School at Metro Kids Club, went into classrooms all over the city as an instructor for Philly Young Playwrights, and has been teaching right here at Curio since early 2015. Andrew holds a BFA with honors from the University of the Arts where he developed his multi-pedagogical teaching style. He's trained in Viewpoints, Commedia Dell'arte, Williamson Technique, Michael Chekhov, Rasa Boxes, as well as many different schools of acting technique. He believes the human spirit has a deep and magnificent desire to share stories with each other, and anybody who comes into contact with this generosity of spirit starts to become a better citizen artist, which in turn makes us kinder human beings.
Katherine Perry is an actor, improviser, and teaching artist who is a recent West Philly resident! She is beyond excited to join the Curio Education Team and connect with her new community. As a teaching artist Katherine has worked with the Arden Theatre Company, Walnut Street Theatre, White Pines Productions, Philadelphia Young Playwrights, and Theatre Horizon. Katherine previously served as the Director of Education for White Pines Productions in Elkins Park. She earned her BA in Theatre, and Psychology from Lehigh University in 2010. Previous performance credits include: A Funny Thing...Forum (Scranton Shakespeare Festival), Animal Farm (Luna Theater), Rodeo (Quince Productions), and Till Birnam Wood (2014, 2015 Philly Fringe; 2016 NYC Fringe). katherineperry.net
Tessa Kuhn is a theatre educator and actor based in Philadelphia. She began taking classes at Curio’s school and summer camp upon its conception, and after years of this, became an intern and, later, and full time counsellor. A recent graduate of the theatre program at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Tessa has taught in both Philadelphia and Toronto using the Devised Theatre, playwriting, improvisation, acting and prop and costume building skills she has obtained. Tessa is a firm believer that an educator should be consistently learning as much as they are teaching and seeks to build confidence in students through theatre.
Harry Slack is a Philadelphia based writer and actor who has been working for the Curio Theatre School since 2010. He has studied collaborative theatre making at Eastern University, playwriting at Temple University, and uni-cycling at The Philadelphia School of Circus Arts. He is passionate about exploring the art of language and helping students to develop effective communication skills through theatre education.
