Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror
Curio brings you a special evening treat for Halloween! Accomplished musician and composer Victoria Squicciarini will accompany the silent, black and white movie with live music from the original score. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) is a silent German Expressionist film directed by F.W. Murnau. It is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, following a real estate agent sent to Transylvania to meet the sinister Count Orlok, who brings a trail of plague and death to a German port city. This special event will be held in the Calvary Church Chapel, the perfect backdrop for this Victorian nightmare! Anansi the Spider: A Make/Partake Experience Family fun for 3 and up! The Origin of Anansi the Spider is inspired by an African fable from the Ashanti people of Ghana. Anansi had a dream to be the lord of all stories, so he went to the Sky-God Nyame and made his request. Nyame gave him the mission of bringing back a python, a leopard, and a swarm of hornets and promised that if Anansi did this, he would become lord of the stories. Anansi was a great trickster and was able to use his cunning wit to fool the animals into coming back to Nyame with him. Anansi succeeded and was named lord of all stories. This production is another in Curio's Make/Partake series where children will have hands-on experience in participating in the production by making props, creating sound effects and even controlling the weather. A Flea in Her Ear A Flea in Her Ear is a classic French farce by Georges Feydeau. A brand-new translation and adaptation, brought to you by Curio's Artistic Director Paul Kuhn. Set in 1907 Paris, it follows Raymonde Chandebise, who suspects her faithful husband Victor of having an affair because he has suddenly lost his libido. Desperate to catch him, she orchestrates an elaborate trap that spirals into complete comedic chaos. Marisol Marisol is a beautiful, surreal and apocalyptic play by José Rivera that follows Marisol Perez, a young Puerto Rican woman and Manhattan copy editor, whose world plunges into chaos. When her guardian angel abandons her to join a heavenly war against a dying, senile God, Marisol must navigate a dystopian New York City where the moon disappears, the air is toxic, and social order collapses. Written in 1989, this play resonates today as an urban fantasy which urges society to "wake up" and somehow find a way to recover the long-lost and much-needed compassion for our fellow man, as this is the only way to save our world. |
