SOJOURNER
Written by
Richard Lamont Pierce
Starring
Zuhairah

Directed by Gay Carducci

Directors Note:

When I first learned that Zuhairah asked that I direct her in this piece I was at first flattered. Then I had to ask myself if I was really the right person for this role. After reading the piece and talking with Z I knew I wanted and had to do this timely work.

To say that Z gave me way more than I gave her is a vast understatement. I learned more with her about black history than I had ever learned in school or what I had learned trying to educate myself by reading.  Working with someone that had already performed this play countless times could be difficult and challenging, With Z it was neither. She welcomed input. She made adjustments with joy. She is the epitome of a collaborator. We cried and laughed... a lot. Not only did I learn and have a beautiful experience, I made a dear friend. Thank you for coming out to watch this incredible actor bring Sojourner to life!

The runtime for this performance is 90 minutes with a 10-minute intermission.
